November 16, 2007
The 2007-2008 season is now in full swing and already beginning to take on a new look. Brownies & Juniors have been combined into one tight working unit! So far, so good - right? Even after our old Brownies got a bit of special treatment at the beginning of the year with a few extra side trips, they nicely made their "leap" into the world of Juniors during our November investiture. We also inducted a few new faces into our Girl Scouting family to join in the fun.
Believe it or not, the holidays are now surrounding us and each group has undertaken lots of new projects. Brownies & Juniors will begin on holiday crafting along with working on their "Becoming a Teen" badge. Not to mention that beginning in February, we’ll start on leadership skills which will be needed to work towards our Bronze Award.
Many of the older girls are working now on Silver & Gold Awards as we have jumped right into several achievement projects. Cadettes all have been coordinating the initial design of their Silver Awards while Senior girls are still in the " thought" design of their lifetime achievement projects. In fact, all of the girls are looking forward to working with the Holyoke Soldier Home during the Thanksgiving season. Our first visit there was last spring and we all couldn’t wait to go back for another visit! This project was done for a Silver Award for Mandy which will expect to be awarded her honor in the spring of 2008. Next in the assembly line is a Silver project for Bevis who has been working with the local senior center knitting hats for kids with cancer. All proceeds will benefit the Baystate Cancer Center. Countered by the project workings of Ellie who is collecting medical supplies (band-aids, gauze, wraps) for the four medical clinics in the village of our Cambodian friends.
Please stay tuned .. As you can see, there are many girls currently in progress with their projects and there are many more really great projects coming from the other Cadettes of our group.
